News & updates about Dystopian Symphony to keep you informed about the series!

  • Hi, it's been a  long while, fellow readers!

Time to blog again in so long! You may find it uncalled for, but I feel the need to dust off this rather old bit of archive after quite many years of silence. I'm going to clarify the current situation with To The Beginning on Wattpad and talk a bit about Lost Echo's continuation.

I'd like to tell you To The Beginning is finished and ready to ship, but not yet! I don't want to let an unfinished product put on indefinite hiatus sit around on my Wattpad profile, whilst I'm getting stuck in the editing process that is, in truth, harder to tackle than I anticipated. Not to mention, ironically, I've been stuck forever on Anthem of Peace's story arc, which is however, without a doubt, my favourite. I'm in a predicament where I want to prioritise quality over quantity, but I have nothing substantial to offer you yet, while we're approaching Dystopian Symphony's tenth anniversary on May 20th, 2022.

Quick note, I can't believe I was nineteen years old when I embarked on this whole adventure, it takes me back for sure! Compared to myself in 2012, I'm such an old lady! Don't mind me while I'm having an existential crisis over getting old, remembering my writing in a foreign language's early days! *laughs*

The interesting part about all this is honing my writing style everyday and at every opportunity! With Dystopian Symphony it appeared crystal-clear when I began reworking entirely The Beginning in 2017. I'm definitely not satisfied with, and a bit embarrassed of, what I've published online between 2012 and 2015, in hindsight,  but it's all part of bigger improvements. See The Beginning as a rough first draft, which contains many errors and bottomless plot holes. If I didn't share it with the world in the first place, maybe I wouldn't have completed it at all. It's my beta readers' feedback that motivated me to persevere and I'm forever thankful to them for supporting me!

Lost Echo is a whole another topic; let's talk about my old frenemy Block (also known as writer's block)! Yes, I have pretty much bailed out on that one! Although I nailed the beginning chapters and have a vague idea of how it's going to end, unfortunately, I am struggling with the middle part, which seems to be my recurring weakness, associated with lack of planification. Actual writer's tip: let me advise you to map out some of your main plot elements before you start writing, instead of going all left without any plan of action. On many occasions, I ended up demotivated because of not knowing where to take the story next. It might even explain why it takes me several years to finish most of my first drafts!

To be completely honest with you, I decided on reworking The Beginning entirely to improve stylewise, to reintroduce some characters properly where character development seemed lacking, and to get in the mood for writing Lost Echo again, as shown by some Lost Echo's elements sprinkled throughout To The Beginning (shush, shush!) It worked at first, but I haven't gotten far enough to foresee the possible continuation of Lost Echo as of yet. It may take a while still to mature, until it's good to go online, I'll keep you updated about my progress if it's worth some news. From now on, I won't make promises I can't keep!

Thank you for reading, I can't wait to republish To The Beginning as soon as I get it done!

Author's note (March 3rd) :  It's Paula again! I could talk on and on about how I deal with editing and fixing errors when I spot them! Nevertheless, some edits were due to make more sense, since I wrote this pretty late at night and didn't spot right away some minor logical inconsistencies. Everyday is a learning experience!

  • As promised, I am back at my writing machine in 2017 to continue writing Dystopian Symphony!

Let me take you back to May 20th, 2012 when spring was in the air. It has been remaining until now as a very important day of my life, which defines the person and the writer I have become today. I took a notebook, sharpened my most trusted pencil and started writing. To think in a foreign language, explore its vocabulary and grammar subtleties, challenged my mind and my creativity at first. Short story grew into a book series!

Five years later, I have experienced and learned a lot about writing. I have decided to rework Dystopian Symphony. In 2017, I want to take it a step further and rework it entirely. I never forgot the joy that pulsed through my pen when I first wrote it.
Today is a milestone towards what's coming next. I plan to publish 2017's revised version of the story online avallable to read exclusively on Wattpad. Feel free to give me your fair criticism so I will know where to improve! Besides, Lost Echo is resuming soon!

Have you heard about chat stories yet? These are chat-based stories you can read on your phone or tablet as if you were reading someone else's messaging history. I have been writing chatstories since March, they're as addictive to read as to write! I've just published a spin-off to Dystopian Symphony known as Outer Space Outtakes that recounts the setbacks and flip-flops having to cope with lowly earthly concerns aboard mankind's last standing colony across the Universe, set in Lost Echo's timeline. Available to read on Tap by Wattpad, hope you'll like it!

  • Greetings from outer space,

I gladly admit that the series has been kind of stuck, kind of on hiatus across the space time continuum for several months as I am speaking now although I have not shipped out quite yet: due to me writing multiple stories at the same time, it becomes sometimes difficult to keep track with all of them, especially because my other project gave me a lot of writing and rewriting work this past year.

In 2017, I resolve to plan my schedule a lot more efficiently, and to begin with, I will make a big announcement in the course of January (after midterms) concerning Dystopian Symphony as a whole. You'll learn about that hopefully soon! :)

Since the series began in 2012, I have been challenging myself over and over again by writing science fiction novels, by imagining worlds in a foreign language; and now is about time to take my writing to the next level! :)

First and foremost, I still need to finish Lost Echo and I will do my best to catch up on my release schedule, which depends on troublesome factors such as writer's block. Not to mention I have spotted some bigger or smaller plot holes that need to be addressed before continuing any further.

You can follow me on my social media as usual, on Facebook (Dystopian Symphony) and Twitter (@PaulaSpectacles). The website has been on hold for quite a while too, though still active, in need for reconstruction whether or not I decide to keep it.

    Stay tuned, speak soon! :D

  • Hi all, Seira's online for a short update about the continuation of the series!

I'm sorry for appearing and disappearing once in a while, I have been busy on many different levels the past few months - including my studies in college and my first comic project - so I have paused DS for quite a long time.

But now I am ready to continue writing the story! I am currently working on next chapter in hope I can update more regularly. No big deal or deus ex machina twist, it's all (almost) about family issues thus why I've chosen to title it Mama's Strange Friend. ^^

To be continued, see you soon! :)
